On the morning of December 6, the PLA Air Force General Hospital completed the haematopoietic stem cells (HSC) collection procedure on Cao Xiangyu, a fourth-year undergraduate of Xinya College, Tsinghua University. This makes him the 12,402nd HSC donor in China, the 469th in Beijing and the 109th in Haidian District. Since Tsinghua University was included in the China Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Database (China Marrow Database), he is the 10th student from the university and the first from Xinya College who has been identified as an HLA donor and successfully donated HSC.

On the afternoon of December 6, Song Yonghong, Vice President of the Red Cross Society of China Beijing Branch, Zhang Yuguang, Executive Vice President of the Red Cross Society of Beijing Haidian District Branch, Zeng Haihong, Assistant to Director of Qinghuayuan Subdistrict of Haidian District, Wei Jing, Vice Director of the Student Affairs Department of Tsinghua University, Huang Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Tsinghua University Committee, Zhang Weite, Assistant to the Dean of Xinya College, as well as counselors and students from Xinya College and the Red Cross Society of Tsinghua University paid a visit to Cao in a hotel.

When they arrived, Cao was attending an online class, making everyone admire his hard work and advising him to have a good rest. Wei Jing asked Cao about his health and expressed heartfelt gratitude to him for his selflessness. The Vice Director of the Student Affairs Department of Tsinghua University said that Cao's donation had not only saved a patient's life but also brought new hope to a whole family. With his actions, Cao embodies the strong sense of responsibility oftheyouth in the new era and the great love of Tsinghua students, setting a great example for his fellow schoolmates. The university will continue to support Cao's good deeds and take good care of him in his studies and life during his recuperation. Huang Cheng, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Tsinghua University Committee, talked about the cases of Tsinghua students participating in similar donations in 2021. He said that he had noticed how Cao was involved in a lot of volunteer services, including the International Horticultural Expo 2019. Finally, he thanked Cao for his voluntary dedication and told him to put his mind at rest. Entrusted by Xinya College, Zhang Weite expressed his concern about Cao's development and future plans, wished him an early recovery,andencouraged him to continue to carry forward the spirit of volunteerism and strive to make the most of his exceptional talent.
