On the morning of April 15, 2022, a conference for the new leadership appointment results of Xinya College was held in Meeting Room 212 of Central Building. Attendees of the conference included Peng Gang, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Ouyang Qin, Deputy Director of the Organization Office of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, and all teachers and staff members of Xinya College. The conference was presided over by Ruan Dong, Head of the Party Working Group of Xinya College.

On behalf of the Organization Office of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, Ouyang Qin read out the appointment decision. Mei Ciqi from the School of Public Policy & Management was appointed as Dean of Xinya College, while Mr. Gan Yang was relieved of his duties as Dean because he is advanced in years. Besides, Ruan Dong from the Department of Physics and Zhang Weite from Xinya College were appointed as Deputy Deans.

Vice President Peng Gang pointed out in his speech that Xinya College serves as a pilot area for general education and its establishment is a major step in advancing and deepening reforms in education and teaching as a part of Tsinghua University's comprehensive reforms. Thanks to successive cadres, teachers, and staff members of Xinya College, the university has accumulated valuable experience in improving general education and exploring an undergraduate teaching system that integrates general and specialized education. The college has thus become an important and unique part of the university, inheriting its cultural atmosphere and cultural deposits. Mr. Gan Yang and other members of the previous leadership have made active and multifaceted efforts to advance the college since its establishment. Their remarkable achievements have laid a solid foundation for the future development of the college. Vice President Peng Gang highly commended their efforts and what they have done for the college and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to them.

He also expressed his expectations of the newly appointed leadership. First, they are required to clarify the direction of Xinya College and offer better education to its students. Talent training is a top priority and should be taken as a key task. The leadership should cherish and carry on the fine tradition of Tsinghua University and make the most of the achievements of Xinya College. In addition, it must keep breaking new ground in teaching and education and continue giving full play to the college's pilot role in Tsinghua University's comprehensive reforms. Second, the new leadership of Xinya College needs to further strengthen communication and cooperation with other schools and departments as well as all departments of the university. Teachers, inside and outside the university, should also be given proper motivation to put effort into talent training in the college. Third, the leadership must increase their working capability and make joint efforts to pursue institutional improvement. They have to rise to the challenge and fulfill new achievements.

Mr. Gan Yang, on behalf of the previous leadership, also delivered a speech. After reviewing the years since Xinya College was established, he expressed his gratitude to Tsinghua University for its support for the establishment of the college and to the previous leadership, teachers and staff members for their hard work and dedication. He also gave his best wishes to the new leadership and expressed his expectation for them to, led by the university, break new ground in teaching and education. At the end of his speech, Mr. Gan also stated that he would continue imparting knowledge and cultivating students in his position as Chair Professor.

Later, the newly appointed Dean of Xinya College Mei Ciqi expressed his thanks to cadres, teachers, and staff members of the college for their considerable efforts. He said that the development of the college could not have been achieved without the support from Tsinghua University and the contribution made by former Deans Zheng Li and Gan Yang as well as all other members of the previous leadership. The college has grown into a major center of general education, a hub for talent cultivation, and a promised land for student development. Mr. Mei also said that he will cherish the achievements that have been made and endeavor to make new ones. Mr. Mei ended his speech by showing his gratitude toward the university and the previous leadership of the college. He also expressed his resolution to fulfill his duties and missions and defend the glory of the college. He is looking forward to cooperating with other members of the new leadership and jointly striving for extraordinary achievements.

At the beginning of his speech, Mr. Dean Ruan Dong expressed his thanks to the previous leadership led by Mr. Gan Yang and gave a warm welcome to the incumbent Dean Mei Ciqi. Mr. Ruan expressed his hopes that the new leadership keep in mind their missions, embrace their responsibilities with passion and join hands to promote the college's work in all aspects well.
