From January 21 to 28, 2024, 28 students of different majors and grades from Xinya College enjoyed an eight-day study tour in Singapore and Bali Island, Indonesia. Led by Mi Haipeng and Chen Weihao, a teacher and a counselor of students enrolled in 2020, they visited local universities, cooperative institutions, and cultural venues for in-depth exchanges.

On January 23, the detachment communicated with Nanyang Technological University–University Scholars Programme (NTU-USP) in Singapore.

Mi Haipeng and Chen Weihao introduced Xinya College's development history, curriculum system of general education, and orientation of life. Doctor Christina Chuang from NTU gave a basic introduction to the USP. Professor Ang Peng Hwa of NTU extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students of Xinya College. He said that the training concepts of the USP and Xinya College are highly consistent, and there are many similarities in their training models. Teachers from the two schools hope to take this visit as a starting point to carry out various forms of exchanges and cooperation in the future. After the welcome meeting, the students of Xinya College participated in the teaching section of the USP's general education course and discussed the philosophy of love with the USP's students. Under the guidance of students of the USP, the students of Xinya College had a good experience in the canteen of NTU and visited the teaching building in the unique shape of xiaolongbao (steamed meat buns), the fully functional library, and the campus where buildings and nature are organically integrated.

On January 25, the detachment visited the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center (TSEA) and the Tourism Confucius Institute of Udayana University on Bali Island.

The TSEA, with non-academic education and people-to-people exchanges as its main functions, is an important part of Tsinghua University's efforts to implement the globalization strategy. Upon entering the TSEA, students saw the "Second Gate" integrated with local architectural characteristics. With the teacher's explanation, students visited a museum displaying Bali Island's folk traditions to enhance their understanding of local history, culture, and social life.

Michael Tuori, Academic Director of the TSEA, introduced the general situation as well as various academic projects and activities carried out by the TSEA; Nimas Mega Purnamasari, Director of the United in Diversity (UID) Bali Campus, talked about the development history and operation of the TSEA with the assistance of the UID. Ida Bagus Gde Wesnawa Punia, S.T., M.Si, Head of the Department of Governance and Human Resources Development for Regional Planning and Development in Bali Province, introduced Bali Island's development planning in various aspects such as economy, society, culture, and ecology. Students actively asked questions and interacted with each other during the Q&A session. Through the patient explanation of teachers and officials, they had a deep understanding of Indonesia's efforts and challenges in economic and social development and ecological environment protection, as well as ways for the government to balance these needs and advance sustainable development.

Udayana University has one of the few Tourism Confucius Institutes in the world. Udayana University, as the oldest university on Bali Island, has a campus that is not very large, but it showcases the unique culture of Bali Island everywhere. Led by students of the Tourism Confucius Institute, the students of Xinya College had a deeper understanding of the symbol of Bali Island, frangipani, traditional religious temples, and the mythological sculptures at the entrance to the Faculty of Medicine. Thanks to the introduction by Chinese Director Tao Xianguang and foreign Director Sendra of the Tourism Confucius Institute, the concept of Confucius Institutes gradually became clearer. The Directors' lectures conveyed the unique background and distinct positioning of the Tourism Confucius Institute. Udayana University is cooperating with Nanchang University and other Chinese universities, making continuous efforts to deepen the friendship between the two peoples and promote people-to-people exchanges. The Chinese short films produced by students of the Tourism Confucius Institute show the integration of Indonesian culture and Chinese culture, expressing the common pursuit of peaceful cooperation between the young generations of the two countries and their shared desire to become envoys of friendship.

The detachment attached great importance to team building during the trip, organizing students to carry out interesting activities, get familiar with each other, and exchange ideas in Singapore and Bali Island. The students said that this study tour promoted their understanding of the diversity of different civilizations, the world outlook of different nations, and the development paths of different societies, as well as global issues of common concern and core values cherished by all. This tour also promoted students' further reflection on the significance of general education and the role played by young people.
