On June 23, a group of this year's graduates from Xinya College gathered at a symposium to share their experiences during their studies and life at Xinya College, as well as their expectations for the College's future development. The event was attended by Mei Ciqi, Dean of Xinya College, Ruan Dong, Deputy Dean of the College, Zhang Weite, Deputy Dean, and Zhang Yuanzhe, Head of the Student Work Group, along with teachers from the Collegiate Office.

Zhang Ruiming, a student who enrolled in 2020 majoring in Electronics Science and Technology, remarked that the diverse possibilities presented by Xinya College's general education courses allowed him to maintain a balanced mindset while tackling the challenges of his highly specialized major in the Department of Electronic Engineering and equipped him with the courage to explore various future directions. Yu Jinqiu, another 2020 enrollee majoring in English, is willing to embrace new things, too. She continued to select a general education course each semester, even after declaring her major. This curiosity, independent of her professional goals, along with her fondness for quiet reading, are lifelong gifts that Xinya College has bestowed upon her.

Yao Yuchen, a 2019 enrollee majoring in Creative Design and Intelligent Engineering (CDIE), is about to pursue his master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction. He mentioned that the study of classic texts in Xinya College's general education courses brought him pure joy—related to connecting with the minds of ancestors and gaining a deeper understanding of himself, others, and society—experiences that specialized courses aimed at career goals cannot provide. Chen Anqi enrolled in 2020 and focusing on Automation noted that Xinya College's general education courses not only enhanced her ability to express herself but also ignited her desire to communicate. Listening and being heard are central themes in all of the College's general education offerings. Similarly, Zhong Tianyu, a 2020 enrollee specializing in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), emphasized that Xinya College's general education fosters constructive "demystification" and encourages students to look beyond appearances and grasp the essence, which has greatly benefited his current studies and work.

Yao Yuchen also mentioned that Xinya College serves as a highly interdisciplinary platform, where even emerging projects can receive support from like-minded peers and the College. "If you want to achieve something, you can make it happen at Xinya College," said Yao. Wang Shuyuan, a 2018 student majoring in CDIE, also shared that his greatest gain at the College is friendship. Courses such as "The Way of University" and "Ancient Greek Civilization" have laid a solid foundation for fostering deep bonds among Xinya students. Liu Xinyu, a 2020 student specializing in Physics, pointed out that Xinya College's most important role is creating opportunities for students to come together, emphasizing that the cultivation program "encourages" students to make the most of their time spent together. Wang Shuyuan added that the mandatory aspect of the cultivation program should be complemented by a sense of freedom and relaxation, providing space for discussion, exchange, and connection. He highlighted that sending birthday greetings is a wonderful idea. Prof. Mei Ciqi emphasized that the College places significant importance on preventing students from being "atomized". He noted that the sense of belonging cultivated by the collective community provides a certain supportive strength. Looking ahead, the College intends to make greater use of public spaces to foster cohesion among students. Plans include inviting teachers from various disciplines of Tsinghua University to conduct small classes and organizing weekly afternoon tea breaks in the lobby, offering students opportunities to connect. Additionally, the College encourages graduates to organize activities to support the development of its collective community.

Ao Chaoyu, who enrolled in 2019 majoring in Economics and Finance, remarked that the sociological thinking paradigm offered in the course "The Way of University" solidified his determination to engage in social sciences. He hoped that the College would continue the intensive training in humanities and social sciences within its general education courses. He mentioned that the academic resources and practical opportunities provided by the College have greatly benefited him. The "Tutorials for Academic Writing" gave him a chance to explore studying abroad, and the practice in the PPE major guided him to delve into grassroots educational governance, understanding the gap between reality and imagination. Ao also pointed out a lack of dialogue with rural communities during this process, emphasizing the importance of engaging with people, not just with the land. This concept of "teaching students in accordance with their aptitude" has contributed to the freedoms he values most—freedom to make choices, freedom to experiment and learn from mistakes, and freedom to pursue his passions. Lin Xiaoyang, an Economics and Finance major enrolled in 2020, who is currently starting a business, mentioned that Xinya students exhibit remarkable courage when exploring the unknown or pursuing paths that deviate from mainstream ones. He highlighted that questioning conventions, rather than merely questioning authority, is an aspect of the College's educational philosophy. He expressed his hope that activities, such as reading clubs and "farming and study", would remain accessible to graduates.

Hou Liting and Li Lingyue, both enrolled in 2020 and subsequently transferred to the Economics and Management program together, particularly cherish their experiences in the Xinya "community". For Hou, the sofas on the first floor symbolize the College best, which brings students together and then separates them. She emphasizes that her most significant gain from Xinya College isn't linked to any particular general education course or experience. Instead, Xinya has instilled in her a habit of introspection over the past four years. The "farming and study" activity has shown Li a world beyond mere achievements—the phrase "life is a wilderness" takes on significant meaning in the backdrop of northern Shaanxi.

Zhou Zichao, a PPE major enrolled in 2020, is about to join a startup after graduation. He mentioned that Xinya College's unique cultivation model has yet to be widely known in the job market. To help younger alumni encounter fewer obstacles during job and internship searches, adequate external promotion and showcasing of the achievements of past graduates may be necessary. Prof. Mei Ciqi responded that an important aspect of alumni engagement is helping Xinya students establish their value in the job market. The College hopes to build a communication platform for alumni, fostering an interconnected, supportive community for Xinya graduates.
At the conclusion of the discussion, Prof. Ruan Dong impressed six words "confidence, proactivity, communication, sincerity, responsibility, and flexibility" upon the graduates. As they embark on their journeys, the strong foundation laid by Tsinghua University and Xinya College has equipped them with the ability to navigate uncertainties. The graduates of the College and the University are undoubtedly prepared to embrace life's challenges with an open mind.
