On the afternoon of January 3, faculty and students from Xinya College visited the Tsinghua University Art Museum to explore the newly opened exhibition "Zhōng: The Cradle of China — Glory of the Central Plains Civilization." Co-organized by Tsinghua University and the Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage, the exhibition features approximately 400 carefully selected artifacts, systematically showcasing the remarkable achievements of the Central Plains region from prehistoric times to the Song and Ming dynasties in areas such as political systems, ritual and music civilizations, philosophical thought, and artistic creation. Dean Mei Ciqi and Deputy Dean Zhang Weite of Xinya College attended the event throughout.
Gao Zongshuai, a faculty member of the Department of Art History at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, was specially invited to give an on-site lecture for this event. Drawing on the artifacts as a connecting thread, Mr. Gao bridged the ancient and present, giving clear and engaging explanations of the craftsmanship, historical context, and cultural significance behind the exhibits. His explanations also addressed academic debates, sharing differing viewpoints on the uses and techniques of certain artifacts and guiding students to develop critical thinking skills through observation.
Cultivating the habit of art appreciation through joint faculty-student visits to art museums is a key objective of Xinya College's aesthetic education program. In 2025, Xinya College organized a faculty and student visit to the "Four Bronzewares From Marquis of E" exhibition.
