On the morning of August 18, over 30 students participating in the Harvard College AUSCR Summit for Young Leaders in China (HSYLC) visited Xinya College. Dean Mei Ciqi, Deputy Dean Zhang Weite, and several student representatives from Xinya College warmly welcomed the Harvard students. Faculty and students from both sides gathered together for an in-depth discussion. The students engaged in open and lively discussions in a friendly atmosphere, fostering greater mutual understanding. Afterwards, the delegation toured the public areas of Xinya College and experienced campus life at Tsinghua.

During the discussion, Dean Mei first extended a warm welcome to the Harvard students. He stated that Xinya College was established to bring together students from diverse academic backgrounds, enabling them to live and learn together and to view the world from multiple perspectives. During this exchange, the Harvard students represented a variety of majors—including computer, music, mathematics, physics, medicine, psychology, political science, and anthropology—and comprised current undergraduates, graduate students, as well as recent alumni. The Xinya College student representatives also came from different grades and majors. This interaction, he emphasized, was an excellent opportunity to break down academic silos and gain a broader understanding of the world. He mentioned that distance often gives the impression of great differences between people, but once you come closer, you discover that beyond these differences, there are many shared similarities—and it is these commonalities that truly bring people together. Xinya College looks forward to deepening and broadening its international exchanges, fostering greater mutual understanding through open and sincere communication.

Following Dean Mei's address, students from both sides engaged in lively public discussions, generating a dynamic exchange of ideas.

The first topic was the choice of academic major. A Harvard student stated that he chose to double major in Psychology and Government in order to understand human society from two dimensions: individual behavior and social governance. According to the Xinya College student, this approach complements the underlying logic of Xinya College's Mind, Brain & Machine (MBM) program: one moves from individuals to society, while the other moves from individuals to cognition.

Next, the discussion shifted to life paths. A Xinya College student proactively shared insights gained from his labor practice experience. While working on a factory assembly line performing repetitive tasks such as transferring products and labeling, he realized that these jobs could be easily done by robots. This experience strengthened his resolve to use technology to create more meaningful work and a better future. In response, a Harvard student majoring in Electrical Engineering and Philosophy commented that this was precisely a reflection on the philosophical question: "Where are we going?"

After the public discussion, students freely formed their own groups to further explore topics of interest such as the course selection system, the phenomenon of "involution," and social and cultural differences between China and the United States. The students then visited the public areas of Xinya College, where they gathered in the band rehearsal room to sing popular songs together, fostering a warm and harmonious atmosphere. Finally, Xinya College students guided the Harvard students on a tour of the Tsinghua campus, including an experience at the university canteen.

This exchange provided an authentic opportunity for students from both universities to connect. Though they came from diverse backgrounds, they shared many common traits: a passion for knowledge, a drive for personal growth, and a curiosity about the world. Looking ahead, Xinya College will continue to foster an international exchange environment, enabling more students to broaden their perspectives through dialogue and deepen their understanding through interaction, embracing a diverse world with greater openness.
