I. Objectives
Xinya College is the first independent residential liberal arts college for undergraduate education established by Tsinghua University. It aims to integrate general with specialized education and develop interdisciplinary education while trying to shape a new world-class undergraduate training model with Chinese characteristics and Tsinghua's style of study. The College's goal is to provide students who want more than single disciplinary learning and strive for comprehensive development with general education and high-quality liberal arts and sciences and flexible interdisciplinary specialized education. By combining general and specialized education with course-based and formative education, Xinya College is able to achieve its talent training objectives. With these efforts, it can foster high-quality talent with rich knowledge in liberal arts and sciences, competent professional skills, outstanding capabilities in interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and practice, and the ability to play leading roles in different sectors.
II. Requirements
Xinya College admits students of both liberal arts and sciences. In their freshman year, students will attend small-sized general education classes mainly teaching humanities, social sciences, and basic mathematics. At the end of the freshman year, students can choose their major (except Clinical Medicine) offered by Tsinghua University, including Creative Design and Intelligent Engineering (CDIE), Political Science, Economics, and Philosophy (PPE)ofXinya College, for further development. They are expected to grow into high-caliber professionals with rich knowledge in liberal arts and sciences and outstanding capabilities in interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
III. Program Duration and Degree Awarding
Xinya College offers Bachelor's 4-year bachelor programs, which are subject to an academic credit system. Actual education length could be flexible.
Students will be awarded Bachelor of Arts, Sciences, or Engineering depending on their major.

(2) Physical education 4 credits
Physical Education (1)-(4) is offered from the first to the fourth semester, all of which are compulsory courses worth one credit each. Students can take Physical Education as distributional electives during the fifth and sixth semester and free electives during the seventh and eighth semester. Students who plan to apply for entrance exam-free graduate programs at the end of the junior year should complete the Physical Education courses (1)-(4) and earn credits.
Students are required to pass the swimming test organized by the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education before graduation. Please refer to Regulations and Requirements of Tsinghua University on Physical Education for Undergraduate Students for details about selecting and dropping classes, the swimming test, and recognizing physical education credits of international exchange students.

General education courses are the core of Xinya College. These courses are based on the integration of ancient with modern cultures, Chinese with western cultures, and liberal arts with sciences. With Chinese and other global civilizations, cultures, traditions, and modern spirits, humanism, and science as the main thread, Xinya College values not only teaching of knowledge but also methodological guidance. Through these core courses, it encourages the students to understand and reflect on what they have been taught while guiding them to apply their majors in other disciplines, comprehend their majors from different perspectives, and understand the history of their majorsand their relationships with other intellectual fields. Xinya College attempts to help students develop the abilities to evaluate different values, think critically, conduct interdisciplinary learning, be innovative, think scientifically, appreciate beauty, appropriately express themselves in written form and verbally, and apply and transfer the knowledge they have grasped.
General education courses are categorized into humanities & social sciences courses and science & engineering courses. Students are required to take 2-3 humanities & social sciences courses during the first semester and 6-7 such courses in total during the first four semesters (at least 16 credits). Students are also required to take science & engineering courses from the following four sectors: Mathematics, Physics, Information, and Biology, to satisfy the respective requirements of minimum credits. All general education courses should be completed within the first five semesters.

PPE Undergraduate Program of Xinya College
I. Objectives
Train students to become elite and leading talents with China's subject consciousness and a broad international vision that can adapt to and advance modernization and globalization. Cultivate students to develop noble personalities, qualities and leadership instincts, rigorous and innovative ways of thinking, solid professional knowledge and accomplishments in philosophy, politics, economics and other fields of humanities and social sciences, as well as complete practical skills.
II. Requirements
Students of this major should pursue true knowledge and care about society. They should systematically master the basic theories of Chinese and foreign philosophy, politics and economics, have the ability to analyze complex political, economic and social phenomena with the thinking methods relevant to humanities and social sciences, and possess strong reading skills, critical thinking skills, and excellent communication skills in both Chinese and English. This major prepares the students for admission to prestigious universities at home and abroad and provides them with the values, capabilities and knowledge to enter the civil service.
III. Program Duration and Degree Awarding
Students at Xinya College may apply for admission to the program upon completion of the Xinya general education courses in the first year.
Courses are offered and credits are allocated according to the four-year undergraduate system. The maximum length of undergraduate study is 6 years.

CDIE Undergraduate Program of Xinya College
I. Objectives
Train students to become interdisciplinary talent with a solid engineering foundation, design skills and professional aesthetic ability.Cultivatestudents' ability to integrate science and technology with art, innovative design ability centering on intelligent engineering, and innovative ability to design and develop intelligent products combining information industry and the needs of society.
II. Requirements
This major focuses on the development of students' comprehensive quality in science and art, the combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practice.Students will be encouragedto participate in international exchanges and to take internships in worldwide prominent institutions.
III. Program Duration and Degree Awarding
The undergraduate program of Creative Design and Intelligent Engineering (CDIE) is 4 years. A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering will be awarded.
Courses are offered and credits are allocated according to the undergraduate system. The maximum length of undergraduate study is 6 years.
