On the afternoon of September 20, the Calligraphy Association of Xinya College held the first group event in this semester in Room 102, Xinya Building.
The newly established association greeted several new members with the enrollment of freshmen. The head of the association first illustrated its current development and activity plan for this semester. He also encouraged the new members as starters and provided specific guidelines. Then new members started to practice as patiently taught by thesenior ones. Experienced members unfolded the rice paper and copied the calligraphic works.
Themembers of theassociation, established in the spring semester of 2019 as the youngest of its kind in Xinya College, were previously involved in many events in the form of an interest group. The association focuses on the cultivation of interest and hopes to provide a platform for students who love calligraphy to exchange ideas and sharpen their skills.
Daily activities
● Calligraphy practice: A calligraphy counselor will provide necessary guidance and demonstrations for beginners. There are three kinds of them respectively specializing in soft brush calligraphy, hard-tipped pen calligraphy in Chinese, and hard-tipped pen calligraphy in English.
● Discussion and exchange: During or at the end of the practice, all will be organized for discussion and sharing for common improvement.
● Work creation: All members are required to create a complete calligraphic work (all sizes accepted) every month. They can do at the time scheduled by the association on a weekly basis or in their spare time.
Special activities
● Organized for calligraphy exhibitions or lectures
● Creation of creative products at festivals (For example, members wrote couplets at the Winter Solstice Fair held by Xinya College last year).
● An exhibition of calligraphic works by members is held in Xinya Building every semester.
At the events, students may exchange ideas with and learn from each other in calligraphy.They open the copybooks, hold the breath and practice by copying the master calligrapherson fine rice paper, so as to communicate with them beyond time and space and be immersed in the nice atmosphere among like-minded people.
