The "Jinghong Zhumeng" university-high school bridging program was launched with the support of the "One Thing Plan" of Xinya College, Tsinghua University. It is a public welfare campaign carried out in cooperation with Tsinghua University's "Siyuan Program". Focusing on the theme of "university-high school bridging" under education modernization, it helps middle school students better understand university majors through professional information-sharing lectures and online professional consultation, so that they can make more rational choices in future major selection and university application, prepare for the study and life in the university, and make a transition from high school to the university.


The "Setting Sail" Practice Detachment of Tsinghua University to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province is composed of 12 undergraduates from 10 schools/departments such as Xinya College, School of Environment, Rixin College, School of Social Sciences, Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Engineering, and Department of Automation. Retaining the activities organized in Mianyang Middle School of Sichuan Province during the summer vacation of 2023, this time the detachment went to Hangzhou No. 2 High School of Zhejiang Province to continue the "Jinghong Zhumeng" university-high school bridging program.


During the practice, the detachment offered ten professional cognition courses to more than 100 students of Hangzhou No. 2 High School who participated in the courses online and offline. Besides, the detachment visited enterprises in the Qianjiang Economic Development Zone, which enriched the information of the "enterprise-university-research institution integration" part of the university-high school bridging courses. The detachment also invited graduates to put forward valuable opinions and suggestions for university-high school bridging activities. At an experience-sharing symposium jointly held with Zhejiang University's "Light of Culture" practical education program, the detachment organized exchanges on the assumptions, dilemmas, and methods of education practice.

On the morning of February 1, key members of the university-high school bridging program team held an online symposium with key members of Zhejiang University's "Light of Culture" practical education program.The "Light of Culture" practical education program of Zhejiang University is a volunteer teaching program of college students guided and supported by Danyang&Qingxi Community Qiushi College, Zhejiang University, and Shanghai's May Foundation. The "Light of Culture" program, with seven years of organizational experience, was selected as one of the Top 100 National Outstanding College Student Associations in 2023.


He Yilin and Li Anqing, heads of the "Light of Culture" program, and Zhang Jianyi and Jing Yi, heads of the "Jinghong Zhumeng" program, introduced their respective projects and shared relevant experience. Subsequently, members of the two program teams discussed issues such as curriculum design, teaching methods, and volunteer teaching ethics. Finally, Yang Li, Secretary-General of the May Foundation, delivered a summary speech in which he spoke highly of the discussion results of students from the two program teams and encouraged them to make persistent efforts. Based on the gains and thoughts, the detachment members began their practice in Hangzhou No. 2 High School.


On February 2 and 3, the detachment members went to Hangzhou No. 2 High School to offer university-high school bridging courses.


There were 12 lectures in total, covering many professional fields such as science, engineering, liberal arts, social sciences, and commerce. Each member presented the introduction of professional knowledge in a wonderful way: Zhang Xiaoyu, a mathematics major, gave students the mysterious role of "topologists" to encounter strange projection drawings in the two-dimensional plane on paper and look for hidden knot invariants; Zhao Xiwei, a law major, introduced The Case of the Speluncean Explorers to show the complexity and multifacetedness of real cases and stimulate students' in-depth thinking on legal principles; Jing Yi, a computer science major, described the broad prospect of emerging cognitive science and neuroscience based on the principles of face blindness and facial recognition.


The professional cognition courses received positive feedback from students. After the courses, students from Hangzhou No. 2 High School had an in-depth exchange with the detachment members on the spot, with their discussion covering specific professional knowledge and future development prospects. They not only boosted their confidence in studying hard and sticking to their interests but also gained an added sense of expectation of university life after vivid depiction by the detachment members.


In addition to the courses, the program team members also carried out a diverse range of research activities during this volunteer activity.


On the afternoon of February 1, the program team members and some students from Phases 19 and 20 of the "Siyuan Program" visited enterprises in Qianjiang Economic Development Zone, Hangzhou, providing more information for the introduction of "enterprise-university-research institution integration" in the university-high school bridging courses, and making the framework content of the courses more complete. Qianjiang Economic Development Zone is a provincial economic development zone approved by the People's Government of Zhejiang Province. As one of the five "industrial platforms" in Yuhang District and an important node connecting the intelligent manufacturing corridor of eastern Hangzhou and the scientific innovation corridor in western Hangzhou, the zone has gathered a number of large and medium-sized enterprises such as Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Limited, Hangzhou West Lake BYD New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., and Hangzhou Huaguang Advanced Welding Materials Co., Ltd. after years of development, becoming the backbone of industrial economy in Yuhang District. The detachment members successively visited the exhibition hall of Qianjiang Economic Development Zone, Hangzhou Dadi Haiyang Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., and Hangzhou Unique Disinfection Equipment Co., Ltd. to have a deeper understanding of the connection between professional knowledge and practical application.


The practice of the program team is of great significance to both local high school students and the detachment members. A smooth transition from high school to the university can not only help high school students better overcome the "cultural barriers" of universities but also enable college students to deepen their professional cognition in the process of passing on knowledge and make them more determined in their choices.
