Academic Standpoint

“Understanding comes first when we study history, because we can understand ourselves when we understand the ancients.” She advocates that one should shift the attention from a final design to its creation process (manufacturing, designer, techniques etc.) and place design-centered microscopic researches in a macroscopic historical backdrop. We should generate an understanding and interpretation of everyday life in combination with factors such as substance, politics, society, culture, and techniques from the perspective of “overall history”, and explore the mechanism of promoting and constraining the development of design. As a theoretical researcher, on one hand, we need to provide theoretical support for design practice; on the other hand, we should lead design practice and exploration.
