Born in Beijing in 1968, Hou Xudong is now a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Research and Conservation Center for Unearthed Texts, Tsinghua University, and the university's Department of Sociology.

As a member of the Teaching Committee at Xinya College, he offers the course China's Ancient Civilization.
