With a focus on the innovative design and engineering application of mechanisms, the structure design and dynamic performance analysis, motion analysis and optimization, dynamic performance, work space and flexibility analysis, trajectory planning and motion control of the mechanisms are investigated widely. The stiffness synthesis and structural stability analysis are unified in the structure design of structural overdetermined mechanisms. Based on the dynamic analysis of the mechanism under the condition of large displacement of rigid bodies and elastic deformation of components, the theory and method of structural static and dynamic analysis of structural overconstrained mechanisms are developed. A great deal of research work has been done on the integration of spatial mechanisms, developable mechanisms and reconfigurable mechanisms, and the dynamics analysis of overconstrained mechanisms. In recent years, extensive exploration has been carried out in the field of industrial robots, bionic robots, construction of palaeobios and bionic flying robots, design of flying vehicles of vertical take-off and landing, lightweight design of small propellers with large thrust-to-weight ratio, efficient power generation mechanism and equipment development. Up to now, more than 20 National Science and Technology Major Projects, National Key Technology Research and Development Programs, National Natural Science Fundation of China, Beijing Natural Science Fundation and industrial projects, and nearly 60 authorized invention patents have been undertaken and completed.
