Vice President of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Professor Emma McCoy visited Xinya College on December 17 together with the Director of LSE's Language Centre Dr. Neil McLean and UK Director of the LSE Confucius Institute for Business London Dr. Catherine Xiang. A reception held in honor of the guests was attended by Xinya College's Dean Mei Ciqi, Deputy Dean Zhang Weite, Deputy Head of the Student Work Group Wang Shuyi, and student representative Shang Duowen, among others.
Dean Mei Ciqi extended words of welcome to Professor Emma McCoy and the accompanying delegation. Mei lauded LSE's remarkable track record with student training, provided an overview of the cooperation between Xinya College and LSE, and introduced Xinya College's talent training philosophy, general education curriculum system, and "10,000-hour" activity series from the points of view of general education and college life. He went on to suggest that student exchanges in the form of short visits and summer programs could serve to broaden the horizons of those taking part.
Professor Emma McCoy expressed her gratitude to Xinya College for the warm reception. She briefly presented LSE’s educational and teaching philosophies and pointed out the many similarities between Xinya College and LSE in terms of their educational mission, teaching practices, and student activities, expressing a hope they might explore other possible forms of cooperation in the future. The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion of the impact of artificial intelligence on higher education and the role that social sciences could play in this context.
Afterward, Deputy Head of the Student Work Group Wang Shuyi and student representative Shang Duowen led Professor Emma McCoy and the delegation on a tour of the college.
